  Guiyuan Temple

Guiyuan Temple(Temple of Original Purity), situated on Cuiwei Street, is one of the four biggest temples for Buddhist meditation in Hubei as well as an important Buddhist temple in China. It centrally located in Hanyang, Wuhan City and built 1658, made of five courtyards and twenty-eight temple halls on an area of 20,000 square meters. It took over 100 years to complete all the Ming and Qing Dynasty style buildings. The layout of the whole plane is in a shape of Kasaya (a patchwork out vestment, worn by Buddhaist monks). It was also destroyed and rebuilt for several times and the current one was last renovated in 1979. .
Guiyuan Temple first was built in the early Qing dynasty (1644-1911) by two monks named Baiguang and Zhufeng on the base of Sunflower Garden owned by a poet, the temple got its name form Buddhist chants: "With purity kept in mind, one has the thoroughfare everywhere." Guiyuan Temple has survived through more than 300 hundred years of repeated cycles of prosperity and decline, above all else, it is always leading the other temple in Wuhan with prosperous public worship, flourishing Buddhist ceremony and many pilgrims.

The Guiyuan Buddhist Temple is a well -preserved ancient Buddhist Temple, and the most important in the area and one of the most important in the country. It represents one school of Buddhism. The name Guiyuan Buddhist chants: "with purity kept in mind, one has the thoroughfare everywhere. "

The Temple is well known for its grand architecture, well preserved sculture and rich collection of Buddhist sacred literature. Its scripture hall keeps more than 7000 volumes of Buddhist Writings. The temple enshrines a 105-ton white stone Buddha. In the Hall of Arhats, there are 500 arhat statues in full length and with various vivid looks and gestures. The temple is always leading other temples with prosperous public worship, flourishing ceremony and many pilgrims.

Local people say you can find you future life by just random start counting the number of the arhats based on your age. If it is a smiling arhat, you have a happy future; if it is a bitter face, you might bump in some misfortunes.
