Zhangjiajie wchich located in western Hunan is home of China's first forest part -- the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park -- and a World Natural Heritage site Wulingyuan Province, the famous tourist city of Since an air route linking Zhangjiajie and Hong Kong opened last April, more and more visitors take their holidays in Zhangjiajie. There are many famous scenic spots in Zhangjiajie, such as Baofeng Lake, the Huanglong Cave (Asia's largest cave), and many beautiful waterfalls and brooks. But the most attractive scene that Zhangjiajie features is the mysterious mountain covered with dense, primeval forests. It is said that 23 species of tare animals and more than 3,000 species of plants are living in the misty world.
The new cableway on Tianzi Mountain is new and is 2,084 meters long. As the cable car runs across the dizzying peaks, passengers get a full view of the spectacular landscape that cannot be enjoyed and other way. Despite the new cableway's presence, there are still mountain-climbers struggling to reach the top of Tianzi Mountain. Sedan-chair can also be seen among them. There are many famous scenic spots in Zhangjiajie, such as Baofeng Lake, the Huanglong Cave (Asia's largest cave), and many beautiful waterfalls and brooks. There are 243 pillar-peaks, each over 1,000 meters high, that are often shrouded in mist and drizzle. Together, the peaks form several "peak-forests" that are rarely found anywhere else. Visitors to the top of Tianzi Mountain will see many pillar-peaks gathered together like soldiers in an enormous battle array.
Many rocks are shaped like animals and fairies, and each is given its own legend. Zhangjiajie covers and area of 9,600 square kilometers, 1.1000 of China's territory. It has a population of 1.54 million, 72.2 percent of which are ethnic minorities such as Tujia, Miao, and Bai. A private Tujia family museum, Xinhua Shanguan, has been established in the city. Its buildings well represent traditional Tujia architecture. The museum is filled with the owner's collection of Western Hunan handicrafts and furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Performances of Tujia customs, including wedding ceremony, are presented at the museum, and visitors are invited to participate in the activities.
Huangshi Village
As local saying goes: A man never come Zhangjiajie, if he don't visit Huangshi Village. It's because Huangshi Village is the best beautiful place in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. There are some scenic sights in Huangshi Village, including "The Greeting from a monk", "The Precious Bottle Peak", "The Visitor from Foreign Country", "The Hawk Feeding Child", "The Lion Turning Its Head", "The Platform for Ordering His Soldiers by General", "The Precious Box for Hiding A Sealed Book", "The Magic Needle", "A Sealed Book Hanging On Cliff", "Nantian Gate", "Nantian Column" and "The Natural Mural".Jinbian Stream is a 7.5 kilometers long valley, which named by sight of "Jinbian Peak" beside the stream. Along Jinbian Stream, there are some sights as follow: "Mother Embracing A Child", "ZHUBAJIE Shouldering Bride", "Jinbian Peak", "The Masters in Traveling", "Save Mother by Cleaving Mountains", "The Candle Peak", "The Immortal Spring", "The Great Writer Peak", "The Two Tortoise Peak", "Scholar Hiding The Sealed Book", "ZICAO Pond", "The Lovers Peak", "The Lovers Tree", "The Jumping Fish Pond", "The Camel Peak" and "The Sandbar Surrounding Four Streams".
Suoxiyu Scenic Area
Suoxiyu Scenic Area, part of Wulingyuan Tourist Area, is famous for its landscape of craggy peaks and huge rocks columns rising out of the luxuriant subtropical forests. Suoxiyu is a natural botanical garden and zoo. Here tourists can have a view of naturally shaped grotesque rocks, unpredictable clouds and fogs, grand waterfalls, cold springs, mirroring lakes, mystic Underground House and Dragon Palace, and elegant relics. Major sights include the 10 - 11 Gallery, known as a natural sculpture museum; the Yellow Dragon Cave, known as the underground pearl; Xihai, renown for its forest of peaks; Baofeng Lake; and Baizhang Valley Located in the eastern of Wulingyuan, Baofeng Lake is the masterpiece made by power of nature and human. Baofeng Lake was named by Baofeng Mountain in the lake. With the development of tour in Zhangjiajie, Baofeng Lake became famous for beautiful scenery in the 1990's.
Baofeng Lake consists of Baofeng Lake, Baofeng Waterfall, One Line Gorge and Hawk Nest Village. Baofeng Lake is a reservoir. It is 1 kilometer long, 72 meters high and 150 meters wide. Baofeng Dam was built in 1979 for generating electricity and flooding. The height of Baofeng Dam is 80 meters and width from 12 meters to 3 meters. There are some sights as follow: Peacock Extending feather, Gold Frog Eating Moon, The Fairy dressing up and Listening local songs. Hawk Nest Village is a mountain with 720 meters above sea level and 300 meters high. There is only one way directing to mountaintop. It was named by steepness. One Line Gorge is 200 meters long and 100 meters deep. It is so narrow; the local people call the gorge as One Line Gorge.
Tianzi Mountain Scenic Area
The king of the peaks in Wulingyuan is the Tianzi Mountain. Local legends say that an ancient Tujia chieftain who aspired to become Tianzi (Son of Heaven), gathered his people and launched an uprising on this peak. This is a virgin land teeming with mystery. There is a flyover, two pools, three ancient temples, four gates, five waterfalls, six caves, seven scenic spots, 84 natural view platforms and 9,990 peaks. Major sights include the forest of peaks and rocks, the Heavenly Pool, the Temple of Son of Heaven and Waterfall of Lovebirds.
